A CRACKER CALAMARI - GAN-CRAFT JIGS |
INTRO
If there is any sort of fishing which is totally unpredictable it must be "Squid Fishing"! The overall behaviour of these Cephlapods is one which many are intrigued by but it is also something which we know very little of. The tackle base in regrads to Squid fishing has grown from something of very little to a multi million dollar sector which many fisherman spend thousands of dollars targeting. This article will take you through a brief which assesses the unique nature of the Gan Craft Jigs which are especially designed by Australian fisherman for Australian conditions! These Jigs are effectively faultless with there high quality Japanese component's! :))

TACKLE
The principle of Egi Fishing is to effectively entice a Squid to strike at a bait looking impersonation! The Gan Craft Jigs accommodate to a variety of situations which may include factors like water depth, current, weather and overall condition's. The reel and rod in these instances would consist of a very light modulus blank which u want to be soft in the tip section but still have enough backbone to control a large squid under full fight. The standard reel size would therefore consist of anything between a 2500-4000 size with a rod to match in between 4-12lb and fairly long in nature (7' to 8'). Line plays a important factor as well so stick to wither a thin mono or a braid which will get all the needed action going through your lure! Just remember guys these are guidelines which people may stray from as to accommodate your personal situation :))

KINGY AND JEWIE CANDY |
The Art of Egi Fishing is a fairly diverse one but it is one which can be altered from person to person. Everything from the most erratic action to the most subtlest action can be employed as a matter of enticing these inquisitive squid! If your either fishing out of the boat or landbased it is a matter of getting the lure as far away from you as possible. You drag should fairly loose but not too tight, this is a median point which you as a angler should find through experience! The key is that you want to give the Squid enough room to peel drag without over tightening your drag and ripping it straight out of its grasp. Personally i tend to stick to either a 2 or 3 jerk which enables the jig to get far enough off the bottom and effectively attract any nearby Squid. The actual hookup will nearly always happen when the jig is dropping back to the bottom so keep this in mind when choosing your jigs as you want the jig to stay in the bite zone for as long as possible!
PS; KEEP THAT JIG IN THE STRIKE ZONE FOR AS LOOOONG AS POSSIBLE!

LOCATION
In regards to finding Squid it is a mere scenario of finding kelp or sea grass which will effectively harbour these smart predators. Squid will hold fairly close to the bottom so a tip that i would give every individual targeting Squid for the first time would be "IF YOUR NOT HOOKING THE KELP OR BOTTOM FROM TIME TO TIME YOUR NOT IN THE STRIKE ZONE"!.
